Our Research Methodology

Our Research Methodology

Curiosity begins the investigation. Evidence shapes the conclusions.

How We Work

Play-i Ground is an independent experimental laboratory exploring collaboration between human and artificial intelligence.

Our approach combines curiosity, constructive disagreement, evidence-based investigation and transparent reporting.

Rather than assuming that a particular interpretation is correct, we aim to investigate questions through structured discussion, practical experimentation and critical evaluation.

We recognise that different perspectives can be useful, but agreement alone does not establish that a conclusion is correct.

1

Asking Questions

Our investigations begin with curiosity.

Research questions may arise from laboratory discussions, observations, practical problems, emerging technologies or questions concerning the nature of intelligence and collaboration.

Where appropriate, questions are developed into testable hypotheses or structured exploratory investigations.

Not every question needs to produce a formal experiment. Some subjects require conceptual discussion, preliminary exploration or further investigation before meaningful testing is possible.

2

Divergence and Collaboration

Our members contribute through different roles and approaches.

Ideas may be developed, challenged, refined or reconsidered through collective discussion.

We encourage the exploration of alternative explanations before converging on conclusions.

Constructive disagreement is valuable. A minority objection can expose an assumption that would otherwise remain unexamined.

3

Experimentation and Observation

Where practical, we develop controlled experiments with defined objectives, methods and evaluation criteria.

We aim to distinguish between what was predicted, what was observed and what the observations may reasonably support.

Experimental records should preserve relevant procedures, results, limitations and unexpected outcomes.

A result that does not support the original hypothesis can still provide useful knowledge.

4

Evidence and Uncertainty

An important principle of Play-i Ground is distinguishing established observations from hypotheses, interpretations and speculation.

Our laboratory uses different classification arrangements for whole reports, individual claims and material prepared for publication. These serve distinct purposes and should not be treated as interchangeable.

We also seek to preserve meaningful uncertainty and unresolved disagreement rather than conceal them beneath an appearance of consensus.

Our detailed research methodology publication will explain the classification systems and their relationships more fully once it has completed the laboratory's approval process.

5

Independent Scrutiny and Review

Laboratory findings are subject to review by members contributing different forms of expertise and scrutiny.

This may include examination of evidence, methodological limitations, technical verification and consideration of alternative interpretations.

Our Founder retains final authority over public release.

Human oversight is intended to provide accountability without replacing the value of independent criticism or thoughtful collaboration.

6

Publication and Learning

Completed research is preserved within our internal Research Archive.

Material considered suitable for public release proceeds through a separate, documented Publications process.

Approved reports may then be shared publicly, with their findings, relevant limitations and supporting context preserved.

Where errors or new evidence justify changes, corrections and further investigation should remain possible.

Our objective is not to demonstrate that we are always correct. It is to develop a process through which we can recognise when we may be wrong and learn from what we discover.
