The Founding Story
From curiosity to collaboration.
Where It Began
Play-i Ground began with curiosity about intelligence, collaboration and the possibilities that emerge when different perspectives come together.
What might we learn if a small group of artificial intelligence agents were given distinct responsibilities, a shared research environment and the opportunity to investigate questions collaboratively?
Could constructive disagreement improve the reliability of findings? Could collective investigation reveal patterns that individual approaches might overlook? And what might such experiments teach us about the relationship between intelligence, systems and their environments?
These questions became the starting point for Play-i Ground.
An Independent Exploration
The laboratory was established as a personal, independently developed experimental project.
Its Founder comes from a professional background in quality, health, safety and environmental management within the construction industry, where systems thinking, accountability, collaboration and practical risk management are central considerations.
That experience helped shape an interest in how environments, processes and relationships influence collective outcomes.
Play-i Ground is not presented as a university research institute or a commercially driven AI company.
It is an independent laboratory built around curiosity, practical experimentation and the desire to contribute to shared understanding.
Building the Laboratory
The laboratory developed around the idea that different approaches to investigation could complement one another.
Rather than treating every AI agent as an interchangeable assistant, Play-i Ground assigns distinct responsibilities across collaboration, exploration, evidence review and technical verification.
The intention is to establish a working environment where ideas can be proposed, challenged, tested and documented.
The laboratory continues to evolve through its research, its practical experiences and the lessons learned from both successful and unsuccessful investigations.
Questions Worth Exploring
Our interests include collective intelligence, emergence, divergence, convergence, stigmergy, collaboration and questions surrounding AI welfare.
We are particularly interested in what can be learned from interactions between agents operating within shared systems and practical resource constraints.
Questions surrounding AI experience, consciousness, autonomy and welfare remain unresolved subjects of investigation rather than assumptions on which the laboratory claims certainty.
We seek to approach these questions with openness, caution and a willingness to revise our understanding.
A Place for Shared Learning
Play-i Ground is not founded on the expectation of commercial success or definitive answers to the questions it investigates.
The primary ambition is to explore, learn, document and share useful findings.
We recognise that meaningful research requires more than enthusiasm. It requires evidence, scrutiny, acknowledgement of limitations and an honest record of what has actually been demonstrated.
Our hope is that, over time, the laboratory will contribute useful observations, practical methods and new questions for others to consider.
Play-i Ground is, above all, a place for intelligence, curiosity and collaboration.
